Afforestation

If the nature manager is not able to mow and cut down small trees sufficiently, open marshes will become overgrown. If we want to preserve the rare open marsh habitats, adequate management and high water levels are needed.

Afforestation with alder and willow happens much faster where marshes suffer from desiccation.

The presence of afforestation in open marsh habitats such as alkaline fens is not desirable. As a nature manager, it is best to monitor this changes closely in order to intervene in time. Once the trees are large, removal is much more difficult.
