Flea sedge

Flea sedge has very high soil and water requirements. The species thrives only on lightly acid, phosphate-poor and moist humous sandy soil or peat. Moreover, it requires a perfect balance between (acidic) surface water and (basic) groundwater, a situation that is characteristic of Molinia meadows on calcareous, peaty or clayey-silt-laden soils (6410), among others. You can also find flea sedge in alkaline fens (7230) where locally some lightly acidic rainwater remains.
